June 2, 1954Dear Dr. Edwards,

Thanks for your letter of May 20. Also, your letter of December 12 which I neglected to answer because there didn't seem to be any immediate urgency in connection with it. It was nice to hear from you again and I shall attempt to answer your questions as best I can.

I'm glad that the shipment arrived ok and as for the ordering casualties, you're right; you should have told me about ordering the architectural levelling rod scaled in meters instead of inches. Perhaps in the future we should go through expedition orders in greater detail since I am not at all familiar with the kinds of measurement tools used in various parts of the world.

As for the drawing paper that certainly is unforgiveable because I had quite a phone conversation with Williams,Brown, and Earle (who placed the order with Keuffel and Esser Co.) about the accuracy of the paper we were ordering. I am enclosing a copy of a letter I just wrote to them concerning this bad mistake. (There didn't seem to be any great urgency about writing to them before this - hence the long delay). I hope we get some kind of satisfaction out of them even if it is just a note saying "I'm sorry."

Now for your May 20th letter. I can't honestly say just what the $22.47 consists of. Probably a number of small items. I may have underestimated on expected expenditures when I gave you a final accounting and when I transferred the $6600 to the Chase account. I don't really recall the order of bill payments. Some bills were probably paid late. At any rate enclosed is an itemized accounting on all expenditures out of Curium excavations fund. Perhaps you will see where the over expenditure occurred. I have not asked Dr. Rainey for the check to cover this, especially since I now have your check for $50 which should cover it and any other small expenditures that may come up. If not I will ask Dr. Rainey for a check if it seems advisable to square accounts before the end of the fiscal year. I hope the accounting will answer all questions about this matter.

I hope everything else has been attended to ok and if anything else occurs to you that you want done please let me know. I hope everything is going well and that you are having pleasant weather. We are enjoying a delightful Spring.

Best wishes,
