Remarks & Questions:

How will funds be made available to me?

I am not too familiar with international banking, but think it would be desirable for funds to be paid into a special account in the Chase National Bank in N.Y. on which both U.M. and I could draw by check. Believe, though I'm not certain, that Chase Bank's checks would be honored readily in Cyprus. Think it desirable for both UM and I to be able to draw on this account, for:

a) I will need to have dollars to pay for transport of personnel (local currency probably not acceptable there for passages), and for part of my own salary.

b) if Cypriote assets are sold there and funds realized (in Cypriote pounds) are used for Curium, UM can then withdraw equivalent dollars from Chase Bank.

Think it desirable to open the account with the Chase Bank now so that formalities such as my signature card can be arranged here.

Continue GRE's full University salary thru payment due Aug. 31, 1953. Tripartite salary to go into effect Sept. 1, 1953, continued until Aug. 31, 1954.

The following funds should be made available for Curium now for me to take with me:

1.For transport of Mr. Jack Benson from Gordion to Curium $ 75.00

2.For transport of Mr. & Mrs. Oberlin from Gordion to Curium 150.00

3.1/3 pay of Mr. & Mrs. Oberlin Sep. '53 to Aug. '54 500.00

4.Transport of GRE from Gordion to Curium 75.00

5.For emergencies and unforseeable expenses at beginning of program. (e.g., transport of other personnel) 500.00 / $1300.00

The following funds are due Gordion Fund from Curium Fund. Should be transferred now or after beginning of new fiscal year, if that is more desirable:

1.Refund of advance to Mr. Jack Benson for transport to Turkey. G.H.MoF. had agreed to pay this. $461.10

2.Refund of travel allowance given David Oberlin for return to USA 350.00 / $811.10
