Dear Roger,
Yes, here I am back, and thank you very much for your letter of the 24th ult. The Gug. dropped from Heaven: I had made no new application, they just reconsidered one of several years ago, inspired to do so I hope not solely by the fact that I managed to get a pair of glasses made for Mr. Moe in Athens one day last summer when the acacia in the sculpture court lifted his from his Kitiam Kidian pavement dashed them on the pavement. I shall probably use it for my Knidian volume, maybe spending a few weeks in Egypt sorting the collection and absorbing whatever there may be of Knidian there.
I did prepare a report on the complex in Curium St. Hermogenes Trench 43. This paper which was written in Episkopi, I think in 1941, is 13 pages double-spaced elite type; illustrations had been selected. The catalogue which should accompany it was not prepared: catalogue descriptions exist, but they would need to be worked over with the help of a library at least, and prefer ably by persons more expert then myself, par exemple and par excellence G.R.E. for publication. I have a copy of it here, and certainly there has been a copy in Philadelphia, and another I believe in Episkopi.
In connection with records sent by me to Philadelphia from Curium, I enclose a copy of a list of those received there, the list made in March 1946. It is evident that this list has not been available to you, not to say the acknowledged (March 20, 1946) by Mrs William S. Godfrey, Acting Director of the University Museum was sent to the University Museum. The copy sent to the contents of part II of this list, you will see a few items an eye over the contents of part II of this list, you will see a few items which may suggest a speculation as to how much duplication was involved for instance in some of Ellen's work at Episkopi. Do get Mr. Hill to try to find the Episkopi copies of these papers when he comes later this month. I must say I have felt a little bitter about the disorder that has been complained of in our Curium records: I put a good deal of effort, under rather difficult circumstances, into an attempt at order. Someday maybe you would like to see some of the correspondence. Enough of bitterness! I think you don't realize how much I have been tied up with Curium.
I'd like to get over for a visit while you are there. How long is that to be? At the moment I am beginning another struggle with PNYX, which will have to be sent off in less than a month's time. The ms. which I have back looks worse than I remembered it, more obviously done too fast. Too bad for me that you got finished, though nice for you. After that, I have to bend every effort to clean up the rest of the Bon Thasian manuscript, which I should much like to finish by the end of May. Then Chian in Chios, where the British are hoping to do a bit of fishing in June. In the meantime, selected photography and supplementary enlargements here, and the Museum all toward the monstrous corpus vol. of Knidian SS, all toward the monstrous corpus vol.
Thank you very much indeed for the Ktima Rhodien pair, a new combination. Maybe I can find out about it from Berard's assistant Deshayes: he recorded the Delos Rhodien for us, and is expected here again in May.
Must stop. Too long anyway. A warm … [illegible]
