Dear Mr. Hill:

I thank you for your letter of the 23rd. I am glad to report that the package of Bamboula material arrived safely and was extracted from customs with a record-breaking minimum of pain! Many thanks for your efforts on our behalf.

We are cheered that you plan to come so soon. If you will let me know your time of arrival, place, etc., I will meet you with the car.

I very much hope that you can make us a good, long visit. Dick will be most eager to discuss the theatre-palace and I know that you. If a visit is sufficiently long to include an overlap with Dick (who expects to come ca. June 20) would not suit your plans, could you consider two trips? We of course would be very happy if you could stay with us until we leave.

With regard to your travelling expenses, I should be glad if you would bear in mind that we would like to use our pound assets coming from Georges's Cypriote estate insofar as possible. I have made an arrangement with the manager in Nicosia for payment of passages in pounds. At the moment we have yet to receive any pound payments from the Cypriote estate, but I think we are on the verge of selling personal account in the Passouri stock, and I rather hope that George's money from these will probably not be paid over in time to be of use for your trip out. So I suggest that you arrange such type of passage as suits you best, with such form of reimbursement here as is convenient for you.

As far as I know any day within the dates you mention for your arrival (10th-15th) will be perfectly convenient for us to meet you. If you should (and I hope not) find it necessary to postpone the date, I should perhaps mention that Jack Benson and I are due to go to Famagusta on Friday the 19th to join the John Seltmans for a himfigntrip exploring at latest the 22nd, though probably the 21st. It had perhaps the 20th and you might possibly returning at latest if you were here by that time you might together with Peter occurred to me to pass the 21st. It had perhaps the 20th and you might possibly enjoy coming with us to Famagusta and getting together with Peter Megaw for a discussion of architectural problems at Salamis where they are digging again now. Peter is eager for advice on matters there. I don't know if that date would suit his plans, but I can suggest it, if you think well of it.

We have added to our staff as cataloguer-secretary an English girl whomseems capable and pleasant, Miss Linda Melton, whom Virginia knows. She will be with us until May, when she goes on to study at the British Institute in Ankara.
