8 Feb., 1954Dear G. Roger:

In case I didn't tell you in the last, we had word from Mr. Ewing that the photographers in London wrote that they were sending the films - but through some mixup to Cyprus and not to the Museum. I guess it doesn't matter much; in fact perhaps better as you will have an opportunity to see what there is when they get there. And by the way, do you have the kodachromes of the dig/ I mean George's of Cyprus, and with the Curium dig. Last year Josephine Shearer begged me for dome pictures through all possible places in Bloomfield Gabriel and Mrs. Soeth. I went through plenty of pictures of spring flowers, dogs, where they might be. I found not a single archaeological photograph. Fro ski parties on Troodos, and not a single archaeological photograph. I thought well to check is sure there were a lot; but the questions where. with you before re facing Caroline.

Item: on my return I was roped into the television act. The fee was $100; but as I had made up all the figures and deduced the income tax for 1953 already I thought it worth it to pay it directly into the Curium fund. The over again, so I told Gloria to do it all more interesting Gordion fund will ill deceased with the end of the fiscal year and lapse into the general kitty, and I saw no reason for the $100 to do it. that too. When the time comes to go again to Gordion we will start with a new appropriation. Better check the bank balance to see that Gloria did deposit it.

That old wretch Mr. Hill never let us know about his departure, even though he did know that he was to take the things for Benson. However as I knew the time must be getting close and that he was to take things also from Princeton for Athens. I got Ellen to telephone to the Smithson for news. We discovered that BHH was to sail the next day from New York on the Andrea Doria, and that the Smithson herself had found out only by chance. It was too late to do anything about it except make a special trip to New York to do it and did. We drew her expenses (except those at the Stork Club in the evening) from the package to the ship; and Hiram volunteered to do it and did. Medsec travel, which means that much less fro Cynthia. I think Mr. Hill and make him should be docked; or at least that you should sell the Hillman and make him ride in the landrover. Should think you would want to sell it anyway early enough to have the benefit of the money for useful purposes.

The Stillwell affair seems to have prospered. I saw him about his screen balls, and also Bert Friend, who had put him onto the theater and all in the end Bert suggested getting a release on the palace-bath. F keeping only the mosaics for his Harvard architecture archaeology of the palace-bath. As Dick Stillwell defined it, iconographical and artistical connected to get involved in dissertation. I was agreeable if Fales comes through the mosaics will be published too, if not we can the problems was agreeable; and the world into data, available for anybody interested to work on, with a Harvard well and good, and the mosaics will be published too; if not we can throw them out into the cold world into data, available for anybody interested to work on, with a minimum of fuss and expense. I also talked to him too. So I wrote to Fales telephone effect; but the next day I had a letter from Dick saying that Fales had yielded up all claims to the Curium material in writing - apparently including the mosaics He also sent a copy of the note. Thereby Dick's screw … continues
