1 Feb 1954Dear Mrs. Harrison:
I am simply delighted with the news of your intentions regarding the staff contained in your letter of 22 Jan. I not only think your provisions for them fair but extremely generous. I know it will mean a great deal to them, not only personally but for the sake of their children, for whom they are trying to do as much as they can.
If you would like me to distribute the money among them, as you suggest, I shall be glad to do so. I think the best method of sending it would be to have your bank transfer it to the Ottoman Bank, Limassol, in my name. I usually have our funds cabled from our bank in New York. Sending checks by mail here is rather risky. When it arrives I will distribute the money to them as you specify, and I will have Sir Panayotis Gacoyannis, the estate's lawyer here, make out suitable receipts for them to sign to be sent to you. I know they will write themselves, as well.
So that I may make no mistake in the distribution I think it would be well to repeat the amounts you list in your letter:
Christos Gregoriou +500-0-0 Savvas Socratl +200-0-0 Mustapha Hassan ... ? Michalis Chrysostomou 60-0-0 Christodoulos Polycarpou 50-0-0
10% back wages 72-10-6
I find in your letter that Mustapha's name is not mentioned but the amount you intend for him is omitted. If you will fill me in on this I will act accordingly.
I am very glad that you like the idea of a clinic for Episkopi. If we can be of any assistance in carrying out your wishes for it, we shall be happy to do anything we can.
with much appreciation on behalf of the staff.
Sincerely,
