Dear Roger, Thanks for your two letters and the mold which has duly arrived - we were much mystified by it since there was no name of a sender on the package and it came from Massillon, Ohio, a site unknown to either of us, and, examining the mold made us sure that it was Curium clay - how and why did you pinch it?
Now for your queries. The capacity of the human mind for error is infinite but I find we weren't quite as bad as you made out.
A. Under unmolded hollow votaries we do know that 1036 is wheelmade - most of this category is.
B. Under solid unmolded horsemen we do mean 419 and in the carbon copy of our letter it so appears.
C. Under hollow animals 2284 should read 2289 (mea culpa), which is the forequarters of a hollow bull.
I'll ask John to write you at some length about the Stadium, but when he'll get around to it I don't know. However in his absence I'll tell you what I know: built in Antonine times (good evidence: coin under floor of gate + suitable pottery), no periods, abandoned 5th - 6th cents. Very few finds, all rubbish-y. Mentioned in Church Fathers' Life of Barnabas who allegedly converted Cyprus to Christianity; Life purports to be contemporary but probably as late as 5th cent. A.D.
I see in going through some stuff that we have a few more third copies of isolated chapters of the TC book you could have if you want them; not of all by any means but there was a time when we were making an extra copy of parts we thought George (or rather, he thought) ought to see. Let us know if they would be any good to you - I think there is one on clay etc. + technique and something else that escapes me at the moment.
Are the almond-trees in bloom yet? Geo. told us the Judas tree we planted in front of "our" house bloomed for the first time, last year. All the best + χαιρετίσματα εἰς ὅλους τούς γνωστούς.
