Dear Fro:
I was very glad to receive yours of the 13th today. I am glad to know that the Power of Attorney is in the works, as Sir Panyotis is pressing for documents and signatures. I hope Gloria will push it.
I am a bit puzzled that you are puzzled about the purchase of items from the estate. But perhaps there is something I don't understand about the transaction. At any rate, what I was referring to in my letter of the 17th was the payment by us of the ca. $3500-3600. for the items purchased by us from the estate of the 10th of December, was being transferred to us (i.e. the Museum) by the Girard Bank from the estate for Panyotis felt The information I was passing on was that Sir Panyotis felt that when the Museum paid back to the estate the $3500-600. so advanced it should be paid into George's Cypriote estate rather than the estate in America, since the items purchased are part of the Cypriote estate, and subject to inheritance taxes here. However, I expect by this time Mr. Ewing will have taken this up with you as I know that he and Sir Panyotis have had further correspondence on this point, as to where the money is to be paid.
As I have written Rodney, estate matters have been held up by the reluctance of the Cyprus Gov't to decide whether they want to accept the house and property here or not. Peter Megaw is back on the job now and he tells me that he has strongly recommended acceptance to the Gov't. and that the Governor is now considering the matter.
I am glad to hear further encouraging news from Dick Stillwell's possible trip here. I have yet to hear from him directly, but gather from yours that I may soon. We are looking elsewhere for a substitute Ellen, as you advise.
We will be very glad to see Mr. & Mrs. Heinze when they arrive. I hope we'll have good weather for them. It's dismal and rainy now.
We are busy at our various projects. Apollo gets more and more interesting - much more so than I had supposed Late Roman and Cypriote could be.
I will report as indicated. Perhaps there will be developments within the next week or two.
Yours - Roger
