Sept. 6, 1968Dear Joe:
Hold on to your hat! : I am actively engaged (one of many irons in the fire) in preparing your mss., Kourion, The Ancient Water Supply, for publication! It is uncertain where it will be published as yet, though I favor submitting it to the American Journal of Archaeology which is edited by your old friend, Dick Stillwell. If so, it would be an article and if so, it would get very wide distribution etc. etc. I hope this prospect pleases the patient author.
Mabel Lang, whom you probably recall, is about to go over it with a view toward making suggestions as to what may be necessary to get it in form for publication. She is the best person since she has published a booklet of the Athenian Agora on the waterworks there. She remembers you tenderly and will be a great help, I know. I am giving her a Xerox copy to work over this afternoon and hope we can get her reactions fairly soon.
Slight problems have arisen which I hope you can solve readily. The Table of Contents indicates that there is supposed to be a list of the figures on page 46. This page is not present in my copy of the mss. Can you supply a copy of this page? Also I do not find figures 2 and 8: what to do? Possibly you can supply substitute copies of these two for publication? Or, if I knew what they were, which I don't, I might find them lurking in the general Kourion drawer or cabinet. The actual figures which I have end with fig. 11: correct? If not, what to do about any additional figures not available to me?
It's been a long time. We no doubt seem neglectful but we haven't forgotten our Joe. We would like news of you as well as of the other friendly spirits in Episkopi.
Best of greetings,
