October 15, 1953Dear Dr. Edwards:

I feel like a three-headed monster for not having written you sooner. Life has been unbearably confusing since I returned from vacation on September 1, what with a group of Management Engineers plaguing me for three weeks about museum records etc. and on top of everything else a dock strike tied up the departure of our expedition supplies. They are off and you should receive Bills of lading etc. soon. I am sending a letter about customs to the Collector of Customs right away.

Please send back the extra check for $1000. When I was originally checked up on the original check at the Comptroller's office I was told that it had been sent air mail. A wire must have been crossed because of vacations over there I guess.

I have asked the comptroller to forward $6,600 to the Chase account. There is actually a tiny bit more than that in the account but I haven't had time to make a final check on the funds and as soon as I get the chance I will send you a copy and have the remaining sum transferred to the Chase account. The money should certainly be in the bank by the time you get this letter. I have not deducted the $374.47 owed to Gordion since Dr. Kidder thought it would leave you too short. We will see about reimbursing Gordon after we talk to Dr. Young when he gets back.

Will write again soon. Right now must rush.

Very best wishes and I hope you're having fun.
