Dear Emily:
I return the letter addressed to you by Roger Edwards under date of September 17th in which he inquires whether George made any arrangements for the payment of any funds to the workmen in Cyprus.
Here is the story as I have been able to piece it together. - Christos Gregoriou claims that shortly after Pearl Harbor George handed him a paper signed by George reading as follows: "Should anything happen to me please give: Four hundred pounds (£400) to my Foreman Christos Gregoriou. Two hundred and fifty pounds (£250) to my Cook Savvas Socrati. Two hundred pounds (£200) to my driver Mustafa Hassan." At George's request Christos returned the paper to George in 1946. Dr. Hill found among George's effects a paper dated September 27th, 1943 signed by George which reads as follows: "In the event of my death or permanent disability it is my wish that £200 pounds Sterling be given to Christos Gregoriou, £150 to Savvas Socrati and £100 to Mustafa Hassan, the same to be debited to my estate." Dr. Hill suggests that if any sums are to be given to the employees at Cyprus the following also should be considered who have been in the Expedition's and George's services from 1946: Michalis Chrysostomou, garden and groom £60, Christofis Polycarpou, draftsman, sec. and accountant £50, Andreas
