EPISKOPI LIMASSOL CYPRUS
31 August 1953Dear Fro:
Thank you for your telegram of 21 August. The Ottoman Bank let me have an overdraft of £100 so I waited a week before troubling you again. When, yesterday, the Bank told me that the remittance had not arrived I sent you another telegram:- "Remittance unreceived remit telegraphic" Ottoman Bank Limassol - Curium". I hope that was clear enough. What happened to the check is a mystery. The Bank Manager thinks it may have been lost in a plane which crashed near Casablanca. The check can be cancelled if you wish but £100 of the £1000 has already been spent. Anyway, if the check turns up we won't cash it until we hear from you. All this business arose out of the ineffiiciency of the Bank in crediting the earlier remittance twice and then casually and without apology or explanation debiting the account with the erroneous credit. It was not my account so I did not feel authorised to reprove the Bank people but Roger Edwards may feel inclined to do so when he comes here next week. I took forward to his arrival.
All goes well but I wish they would get rid of the horses and dogs before anything happens to them. They are very expensive to keep.
Best wishes,
