December 10, 1953Dr. G. Roger Edwards Curium Excavations - Episkopi Limassol, Cyprus
Dear Roger:
My thanks for yours of the 3rd. I also have today letters from Mr. Ewing including the inventory of items to be purchased by us from the estate. Ewing's list omits the Leica camera and meter which I am now asking him to include with the other things you wanted. Otherwise, everything is fine and I have a copy of a letter from him to the Girard Bank asking them to transfer to us about $3,500.00 additional to cover the cost of these items, so apparently there are no difficulties here.
Sorry you didn't get Dorothy committed to the theatre but I hope you can get Stillwell. I agree with Rodney that the Philosophical Society will not hold us to commitments for further excavations, particularly since we did not accept Fales' money. Curious about the Oberlins, but I am sure I should hear that from Rodney and you undoubtedly have acted in the best manner. Such problems are certainly always with us. We certainly will consider Ellen going out there next summer, but I had better not commit us at this time because I know there is an awful lot of editing to do at the moment and it may not be possible to let her go next summer.
I am glad Rodney is cheerful because we've got a rather gloomy picture of the Afghanistan expedition from one member of that expedition and I hope Rodney can cheer us up a bit. Everything is going fine here. Best of luck to you.
Sincerely,
