Curium Excavations Episkopi Limassol, Cyprus
3 Dec 1953Dear Fro:
I believe I am now able to send you all the estate information which you requested in your letter of October 9, i.e., lists of:
1. "what belongs to the estate; "what Mrs. Ewing wants"
3 copies of these were sent by Sir Panyotis to Mr. Ewing, with evaluations.
2. "what we wish to buy from the estate"
list enclosed, with evaluations.
3."what belongs to us"
items not included in the preceding, on Mr. Hill's inventory.
The inventory of the estate has been filed in court. I am reliably informed that the distribution of the estate can take as much as six months from this point. This seems to be the maximum. It may take less since the estate in Cyprus is not large. But one should/count on not having further funds from the estate until ca. June 1.
I enclose also a list of our expenditures on behalf of the estate, as it stands on the books. This is only for your information, since you asked that Sir Panyotis and I settle it between us. I have given him a copy, and he is pondering it. There is some difference of opinion between us, but I hope we can straighten it out. I feel, for instance, that the estate is responsible for the upkeep of the grounds and orchard until such time as the property is turned over to the Cyprus government. He boggles at this, I think, and suggests that the legatee is responsible. The question is still open, since the government hasn't gotten around to accepting as yet. I think it would be rather tiresome to try to collect from the government, especially since we have had no agreement with them about maintaining the place.
RSY spent five days here last week. His cheerful presence and good sense boosted me no end. You will be seeing him about the 15th, I expect.
Dorothy Hannah came with him, attracted by the bait of the potential mint, of which I wrote you earlier. She spent 10 days here digging it, departing yesterday en route to England. Results were inconclusive, tho more slag and more coins and blanks were
