2 Dec. 1953Dear Mrs. Harrison:
I received your letters of Nov. 2 and 21 this past week. I have been away, so did not have the opportunity of answering the earlier one sooner.
I should like to say that I was personally tremendously pleased to hear that you and Mrs. Ewing had decided to give the members of the staff the sums of money that George had said he would leave them in case of his death. That is, when of you, generous I say I am personally pleased; especially very generous of you to do so. I probably not involve myself, but it is certainly very appreciated by me.
In the time George did too, for them to carry on with after the Museum members, who may not readily be able to turn to some other way of earning a living after so many years with George.
As to the 10% matter about which you enquire in your letter of the 21st, it would seem that a little clarification is in order on both sides. As it stands, it seems to me that you and Mrs. Ewing feel that they should not receive the back wages due them, which is what the 10% amounts to. Is this really the case?
In any event, to answer your question, the individual members of the staff have made no legal claim for the 10% or for anything else. To the best of my knowledge they are not collectively, in any form, neither individually nor even aware, with the exception of the accountant, with whom I have discussed matters in order to find out the facts, that there is any question of their not receiving the amounts due them under this arrangement.
I would gather, from your enquiry, that there has been some did. Mr. Ewing had correspondence about this between Sir Panyotis and since Mr. Ewing had of which discuss the matter with Sir Panyotis, since September 28, it. Sir suggested that I might be possible you sent me a copy. And that it might be possible to prepare a statement of what Panyotis was included to them. He asked me to find in the accounts the houseboy, to pay this money to them. I did. I had found and to Mustapha and to Andreas, the houseboy, I also found a recording payments of the 10% to Mustapha and 1952. I also found a when they left George in November, 1952, just before George left for America. The staff as of July, 1952. This information, calculation of the 10% is due all the annual trip to America. George's long-time friend plus that provided by Mr. Joseph Last, and neighbor, who told me what he knew of George's arrangements in this matter, led me to state that it was my opinion that George had actually entered into this agreement, and that the amounts represented had been paid out none, except Mustapha and Andreas, at the time of George's death
