28 May, 1953UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA Re: Estate of George H. McFadden, 2nd, deceased
John Kennedy Ewing, 3rd, Esq. 2301-17 Packard Building Philadelphia 2, Pa.
Dear Mr. Ewing:
Thank you for providing us with a copy of Mr. McFadden's will. As you know, Mr. Drinker is counsel for The University of Pennsylvania Trustees of the Museum. We have examined the will with respect to the interest thereunder of the University Museum.
There are one or two questions which you have doubtless considered. The first relates to what steps, if any, the executors here are taking toward raising an ancillary administration in Cyprus. Will an exemplified copy of Mr. McFadden's will be filed there? Some ancillary administration would appear necessary because of the bank accounts and investments in Cyprus referred to in the will.
Following the specific bequests to the Museum of $10,000.00 and of any moneys on deposit in the decedent's name in Cyprus, there is the bequest of "all of my investments in Cyprus." Could you give us, at this time, a list of these investments with their market values as of the date of Mr. McFadden's death and the location of the stock certificates or other evidences of ownership?
The Museum is desirous of continuing its archaeological research on the site at Curium in order to complete the same at the earliest possible date. This will entail a continuous expenditure of funds. Much of this expense has heretofore been furnished by Mr. McFadden through gifts to the University. It would be extremely helpful to the Museum if the executors could find it possible to distribute, at this time, a substantial portion of the $10,000.00 legacy above referred to
