Friday we had to quit at 3.30; Saturday at 9. Sunday was fair but such a sea of mud that we couldn't work. Monday O.K. Tuesday it poured all day. This week we are taking our Sunday today (Wednesday) and making Thursday our Monday. Very little progress. Jess's building (archaic level) seems to be turning out to be a temple - facing north, cella & pronaos, big hearth in the middle of the cella. We have not yet seen if there are 4 supports around hearth for roof with hole in the middle. Nancy Alexander has almost joined Beta to the main trench. Will be pleased to see the last of her next Wednesday. Also glad to see Machteld. But she will have to dig in the main dig or on Knight's Hill; we cannot afford to indulge her scattering instincts this year. I think that she, Jess, and Ellen will be with you this summer (perhaps all will want a vacation in July). I await the go ahead from Philadelphia to speak to the Doulises about going to Cyprus.
