Since then he has been at Basel where he received a degree in Classical Archaeology, and at Yale where he is now an instructor. It was decided that when he comes here, he will carry on Fales' work toward the publication of the palace, theater and Baths on the Bluff of Curium. It is a great pity about Deke but no other alternative seemed possible. Harvard recommended Deke to Pete Daniel who after an interview with him recommended him to us. As you know his work was financed by the American Philosophical Society, but I realize that under the circumstances it might be hard to obtain another grant for the same purpose. Further excavations in this area should not be necessary.
We still have no candidate for the publication of the pottery and other finds from Bamboula nor for the Kaloriziki tombs. I hope to publish Apollo, as you know, and would also like to do Bamboula and Kaloriziki but this is not possible unless I am to remain indefinitely in Cyprus. We have a possible candidate for the last two sites and I will write you later on in the season about it.
Since I returned here in October my own time has been devoted exclusively to work toward publication. Joe Last, however, has carried out minor excavations on the bluff in connection with his research work on the water supply of Curium. He will publish the results and his work, of course, will not involve the Museum in any further commitments. I hope to persuade him to dig for another mosaic which we think we may find in the same building which produced the ones which he cleared last year. This will spare me the interruption in my own work which I am anxious to get on with.
I have been under some pressure to write a short guide for the Sanctuary of Apollo. I have just finished it and it is to be published by the Department of Antiquities.
Yours as ever,
