29th January, 1953Prof. Saul Weinberg, 211, Jesse Hall, Columbia, Missouri.
Dear Saul:-
Many thanks for yours of January 21st which reached me this morning. I should have followed up my last letter much sooner but for the question of Benson which is still not quite settled. It is not certain yet whether he is to work on the finds from Bamboula or on other later material. If it is Bamboula and you were coming here this summer it would be only sensible that his visit should coincide with yours. If he is not to do Bamboula then he would go to Gordion first and come here at the end of the summer. If he is to do Bamboula I will let you know so he can arrange to see you if possible before he comes out here.
With regard to the mosaic, the local papers say someone has published something about it in the ILN. We never authorized such a publication and I can't imagine who has done it. Thank Gladys very much for her offer to include it in Archaeology which is much appreciated. I'm afraid, however, I can't send her anything just now but you will be hearing from me in due course.
Your not being able to come here this summer would have been a much greater disappointment if I were going to be here myself. As, however, I must leave here sometime probably early in July, another year might work out better for all of us.
My best to Gladys,
Yours as ever,
