16th October, 1952Dr. Saul S. Weinberg, 211, Jesse Hall, Columbia, Missouri, U. S. A.

Dear Saul:-

Many thanks for yours of October second.

Since our talk at Princeton the thought occured to me that it would be greatly preferable, but this, may be impossible, if you were able to combine something like a Sabbtical semister of Fullbright year with a full Summer at Curium to enable you to do a thorough job on the early Bronze Age site which might well turn out to be a very important one. This would also serve to reduce very considerably the expenses of travel relative to other expenses over a given period of time.

With regard to the Bamboula pottery I'm afraid Ellen is too tied up to be able to undertake it. I have, however, another candidate, the fellow I mentioned to you, Jack Benson, who has just gotten a Ph. D. at Basel and is to be an instructor at Yale this year. He has been working on Corinthian pottery which was the subject of his thesis. He is anxious to take on the job and he told me in September that he would like to come over next Summer if this can be arranged. I hope to hear from him soon but will write him in the meanwhile. I feel that if we can arrange to have him come over it should be at a time when you are here to start him off. He is a capable fellow and everyone liked him when he was a graduate student at Princeton.

Please remember me to Gladys and tell her how sorry I was to have to miss her when I was at Princeton this Summer.

Yours as ever,
