Copy f.infn. of Mr. G.McFadden. [handwritten: Dear George. I have spoken to one of Whittemore's team about this man's work. He did full-size reproductions based on tracings and did them well. But I am rather doubtful whether your expedition will have any need of his services. Yours Peters.] No.54/40/2 DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES, CYPRUS. Nicosia, 24th March, 1952.

Dear Sir,

In reply to your letter enquiring about the prospects of employment on Museum work in Cyprus, the central Cyprus Museum and the local Museums elsewhere are fully staffed and I do not foresee any vacancy which would provide an opening for you, even if you were to pay your passage to Cyprus as you say you are prepared to do.

Your work in Istanbul making reproductions of the mosaics in St.Sophia for American Museums suggests that there is scope for your talents in the few mosaics and numerous mural paintings in churches in Cyprus. I know of no one at present likely to commission reproductions of them, but if you were in Cyprus engaged on other work and could give quotations for reproductions of particular subjects, it is not impossible that a few commissions could be arranged.

Some interesting pavement mosaics have been found in the excavations of the Pennsylvania University Museum at Curium. It is possible that the Museum may wish in due course to publish some of these in colour, in which case coloured reproductions might be required. And as the mosaics are to remain on the site they might wish to have reproductions for their Museum in Philadelphia. I am therefore sending a copy of this letter to Mr. George McFadden of the Curium Expedition, Episkopi, Limassol so that they may have your name on record.

Yours faithfully,
