G. H. McFadden,
4th January, 1951Prof. John H. Young, Department of Classics, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.
Dear John:
The offprint you sent me of excavations in Cyprus in Vol. LII, no. 4, of the AJA just reached me. Fales had been hoarding it with some other mail of mine in his room. This is why you have never received any acknowledgement. Thank you very much. I thought it was very nicely done.
You haven't let us know how much the expedition is indebted to Sue for work on the figurines, that is the cost of sending Grace to school to enable her to devote her time to Curium. Would you let me know and I will send a cheque to her forthwith.
I returned here in early November and have been digging out the corridors, or alleys, between the five rooms of the South Building. I have also been digging below the floor levels behind the stylobates with interesting results. We have almost conclusive evidence now that an earlier building on the site of the South Building was destroyed by earthquake. We suspected as much previously but only on external evidence. I am finding many coins in important places; also a great number of lamp fragments.
