At one point southeast of the building the late line is found immediately over the earlier one, in the same rock-cut conduit. As a result of Joe's researches and surveying it is almost certain now that this line and the line for Apollo came from a place northwest of Sotira about five miles distant. At Apollo I traced a pipe line right up to the hot water built-in baths, while Joe carried on his investigations near the Stadium. My own time, however, has been occupied largely with the excavation of the main temple. This is the temple, as you know, of Apollo Hylates mentioned by Strabo and famous in antiquity. I have cleared this building down to the floor level and we now can form a pretty good idea of its plan. It is a double temple in the Roman period, as we already knew. The east and west cellas are almost identical in plan. Each has a central nave and two side aisles raised on a dado above the naves and divided from them by colonnades running around the edge of the dado. We are now digging down into the fill below the floor levels and have found the massive walls of an earlier temple which may well date back to the 5th century B.C. It is not going to be possible, unfortunately to have our neolithic [handwritten: "dig"] this year. Dikaios has had his hands full lately in the joint dig the Department of Antiquities is having with the Louvre at Enkomi in the eastern part of the island. He has promised me, however, that this will go through next year. I'm afraid I'll not be home until long after you leave but am looking forward to seeing you early in the Fall.

Yours as ever,
