February 24, 1950Mr. George H. McFadden Kourion Excavations Episkopi, Limassol, Cyprus

Dear George:

This is [handwritten: just] a note to say that a very good friend of mine from Washington by the name of D. W. Lockard expects to visit you at Kourion sometime in March. He is a specialist on Near Eastern affairs and I know would like to speak with you, Joe Last, and the Russian chap who used to be Captain of your boat. I am sure you will find him a likeable fellow. He is an ex-archeologist and is also interested in seeing the site.

Things are rather quiet around the Mediterranean Section with you, Rodney and Connie now all out in the field but the exhibition progresses all right and we see something of Miss Swindler. [handwritten: Grace and Mrs.] Grace is as busy as a bee around here and is practically bubbling over with ideas. Mrs. Harrison tells me that she's not going to look after any more of my women friends but I don't believe it for a moment. We are bound to make that Women's Committee work.

I am very embarrassed to find that we did not forward the last $5,000 for Kourion from here as I had thought. It is being forwarded immediately. The fault is undoubtedly mine because I have been extremely busy and as usual rather absent-minded. In any case you should have that final amount very shortly. Please give my best to Last and Fales and the best of luck to you.
