DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES, NICOSIA.

15th January, 1951

Handwritten: Dear George,

The coins referred to in your letter of 8th December, 1950 have been released by the Customs, checked by us and are being conveyed to you by safe hand.

We found in all 1220 items as follows:-

1207 envelopes containing coins 12 envelopes containing no coins 1 large Ptolemaic coin.

These represent the two consignments exported on loan in 1949, 409 items in July and 812 in December, a total of 1221.

2. Some of the empty envelopes bear such notes as "disintegrated", "stag not coin", "Iron removed" etc. which suggests that the 13 missing items were not coins at all and being valueless were not returned. But you will doubtless be having the coins checked in against your records and I should be glad to have your confirmation that all coins sent have been returned.

[handwritten: yours ever Peter]
