June 9, 1949Professor and Mrs. John Young Department of Classics Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, Maryland

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Young:

Mr. Hill and Mr. McFadden have told me that you are the logical people to approach to help me with my present problems--all of which are connected with the resuming of the cataloguing process in the apothekes here at Curium.

In order to avoid the skipping and especially the duplicating of numbers in future, I believe that an inventory of all the formerly catalogued objects is necessary. This has already been finished up to the point where I need to know all the numbers you have used and what P or M or other numbers are on white cards with you in Baltimore. You realize that if I find (as I have) objects on the shelves with numbers for which there are no cards, that I can never be certain that I have found them all. So some summary of these numbers with a brief statement of what each object is, would bring me to a point where I should know with what number to begin in each class of object. Such a list I need immediately.

In addition, as you of course already know, eventually a full list of the terracottas, stating number, provenience, notebook reference, brief name, and photo reference will be needed for the Cyprus Antiquities Department, prior to a division of the objects by the committee.

Also, Rodney Young has asked me to start an index of films, i.e., lists of the titles of every roll, both object and outdoor pictures. If you left such a list here for the pictures that you have taken, could you tell me where it is, or make one up for the general file which the Museum desires to keep eventually in Philadelphia? Wherever your roll numbers appear on the cards, I can make the lists, but your out-door exposures I cannot list without your notebooks.

I shall stay on here into the summer trying to help in every way I can, so that if any ideas occur to you concerning the cataloguing, or if there is any way that I can assist you, please write me whenever you wish.

Sincerely,

(Miss) Ellen Kohler
