27th January, 1949Dear Joe,
I expect you have, like me, heard from Mr. Hill that he approves my suggestions: [handwritten: +]
(a) to remove the C.M. Bamboula tomb groups to Nicosia.
(b) to pack the Philadelphia Bamboula tomb-groups, but not despatch them.
Lazarus present mission is limited to (a).
Regarding (b), Dikaios agrees with me that it would be well to have one of his men present during the packing, check the case contents lists and seal the cases. This will mean that if it is decided later that the cases can go forward to Philadelphia, we can issue an export licence right away.
According to the previous decision the Philadelphia pots will be broken down before packing; there is no need for our man to be there at that stage, but if you let me know when you are ready to start packing, I shall send him down at once.
You will remember we have not yet received inventories of the Philadelphia groups. They are listed in my letter to you of 28th December, 1948.
Yours,
Handwritten: Peter
PS - this is really too bad about the further postponement of your car. Pes if you haven't already heard about the Bamboula fuss, perhaps you would be so kind as to let us know.
Handwritten: + also not yet got the other lot of photos
