LUCY TALCOTT AMERICAN SCHOOL OF CLASSICAL STUDIES ATHENS, GREECE

January 30, 1949Dear Mr. Hill:

We have a letter from Rodney full of messages for various people, and I thought I had better copy out the ones for you:

'Please tell Mr. Hill that the Museum requests two things: 1) when the things from the new division are sent from Cyprus an Antiquaries Affidavit should be obtained from Megaw witnessing that the antiquities are such and from excavations; the Affidavit should be sent ahead with the bill of lading. The last time [handwritten: xxxx] one had to be sent for to Cyprus after the stuff arrived and the stuff had to sit in Customs until it came. Insurance can be placed in Phila or Cyprus as Mr. Hill prefers; if he prefers the former he should let Phila know the name of ship, number of cases, value, in advance.

Second request: Pete was to send or bring equivalent of our little white cards for objects from preceding division (that of last year), to be used in making catalogue cards at Museum, thus avoiding duplication of work. Not known where cards are. Pete left at Ankara and which the Embassy is sending. They may be in the [handwritten: wooden] chest Pete left at Ankara and which the Embassy is sending. If so they will be found when the chest comes. If not, they must still be in Episkopi and must be found and sent.

Tell Mr. Hill also that Tiggie came to Phila Thursday and together we opened the famous hatbox of Lapithos stuff. I an no judge as to whether it was all there and in order, but anyhow it seemed to me there was quite enough of it if not too damn much.'

Among the other items in his letter are the following: 'At least we have managed to clear the Journal out, sending it to Sally Anderson Immerwahr and Brad Welles in New Haven'; ' and Tiggie sails on the 25th, but expects to be a month on the way' - neither of which items we knew, so will pass on.

This is not very neat, but I think you will find it preferable to RSY's handwriting!
