21 June 1948Dear Fro, I'm enclosing a letter to John Young from the Viking Fund which explains itself. Soon after it arrived Young accepted an assistant professorship at his own University of Johns Hopkins. It was one of two offers which have come in recently and he is naturally, much pleased, although somewhat disconcerted as to how his work on the figurines can be brought to completion. Mr. Hill didn't think, under the circumstances, that it would be right to persuade him to stay on the expedition in many ways, particularly so when so great a number of figurines are turning up from day to day in the current excavations. I've lost ten pounds trying to keep up with him. Pete - I am now winding up the correspondence after a good and rewarding season. For lack of funds, however, it had to be short and on a reduced scale, so, although we are much pleased with results, we are behind schedule. You will have my report to Pete on the year's work when I come home. for your information I made the following contributions … continues
