THE VIKING FUND, INC. 14 EAST 71st STREET

New York 21

May 20, 1948Dr. John Howard Young, Curium Excavations Episkopi, Limassol Cyprus

Dear Dr. Young, Please accept thanks for your letter dated April 7 requesting financial aid in the amount of $5,200.00 from the Viking Fund for publication of a group of Cypriote terracotta figurines.

All decisions concerning grants are made only by our Board of Directors whose next meeting is not scheduled to occur until sometime in the Autumn. Moreover, commitments already made and others now under consideration are likely to exhaust the Viking Fund's currently available resources. If, despite this, you wish me to present your petition for consideration, I shall do so at the next meeting of the Directors.

I regret not to be able to send better news and hope that you will find support for your project elsewhere.

Sincerely yours,
