Dear Prof.:
Many thanks for your letter of January 20th. I think I fully understand your own position and how difficult it would be to reduce any of the accrued income. I have no pete is lot-ter to-day, and I'm enclosing a copy of my answer which explains that I wouldn't be worth while, of course, to put off his own trip for so was much appreciated. If you can really obtain a very substantial contribution from the Philo-sophical Society, the difference. As you ask me to be perfect-ly frank, however, I should hate to see any of it marked for any particular site or group of buildings. It would be surprised how quickly I might find two deficits. You would be a thousand only, con-solve my hands instead of one. You would be able to carry out the program as agreed upon between us last fall on a fluid budget of $18,000. I now see very well how we can do so under other conditions.
Expenses for the first six months of the fiscal year have amounted to $9,000 - hose include the inac-tive months of July, August, and September when the Youngs were here alone. I'm planning to come down for the projected spring campaign, I should have a minimum of $3,000 at the end of the deficit which I have him, and Apollo to sit for the Kourion. It remains only to avoid the deficit. It was not reduced to a minimum. As Mr. Hill is reduced to a minimum, I should have a minimum of $3,000 at the end.
We are facing a deficit of $3,000 with-out interruption. This cancelled the projected campaign in which I should have a valuable part. I have a proposal to make, however, which may solve most of our present difficulties.
If you really can obtain the grant from the Philosophical Society we may have a fluid $18,000 for Curium during the coming three years as outlined in your letter. I'd be glad to finance the anticipated deficit of $3,000 with-out interruption. Dis wherever this program as agreed upon the third installment of $1,000 which would be repaid to me … continues
