[printed: DEPARTMENT OF ANTIQUITIES, CYPRUS.]

Nicosia, 11th December 1947.

Handwritten: Dear Mr Hill,

Thank you for your letters of 9th December. I shall consult the experts about the Ayios Ermoyenis proposal, but foresee no difficulties.

I am sorry we shall not see you in Nicosia before you leave, but will deal with the coins when John Young brings them along. He should be able to assure me that you "shall make adequate provision for the preservation, insurance and return of the coins". There are no formalities to be completed in connection with the departure of the Lapithos records.

Pete Daniel writes that he hopes to bring out a new recruit to deal with the Palace and Basilica. That is good news indeed. He seems quite keen about Sotira too, though I had warned him Dikaios might have a full programme in the near future. Looking up our correspondence on that subject I find we are awaiting your decision whether you would wish Dikaios to do any further work on behalf of the Curium Expedition on that site. I do not mention this with any object of forcing a decision, but rather to warn you that if you did wish him to resume work it might be difficult for him to do so at short notice in view of other commitments. I need hardly add that I would be very glad to have the Department associated with your expedition in this way and that Dikaios would welcome the opportunity to return to such a promising site.
