POINTE D'ACADIE BAR HARBOR MAINE

23 August 1947Dear Mr. Hill,

I'm afraid again as usual I have been a poor correspondent and I hope you will forgive me.

As far as "Curium Excavations" is concerned I have little to report. I saw Pete soon after my arrival. He gave me a copy of his letter to Megaw. As I imagined you were dealing with the matter, my only comment was that I was very sorry he had sent it. I discussed the division of finds with him and he now agrees, I think, that of the five best tombs, we have received four minus the terracotta tripod. He is glad that we got the larger tomb containing the small tripods, the one at the end of the apotheke, instead of the one for which his memory as expressed in his memo showed slight preference. Pete's letter does not express the considered opion of the University Museum as the Director never saw it. I asked him to tell the Director that the division was a very much better one than he at first supposed, and I hope he has done this, or the Director will be somewhat confused by the contradiction in our reports. More of this when I see you. The new permanent Director comes to the Museum September 1st. His name is Rainey, a Yale man, PH D, an anthropologist in the American field. s
