CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASOL CYPRUS

10 June 1947Dear [handwritten: Mr.] Hill,

I was delighted to get your nice letter and to hear you are planning to return here in the Fall, as we all are. I am flying from here for Cairo on Saturday to make TWA flight 965 from Cairo for Paris Monday. [handwritten: If,] however, Hull [handwritten: TWA] on a plane for Athens from here, I'll catch the same plane, flight 965, at Athens. In view of your sad experience, however, I told them [handwritten: ?] so there is a chance I must be fool proof. If I may see you before this letter arrives. I doubt whether I see you as come from Cairo, the plane will be stopping at the air field only for an hour, probably, but I'll try and call you up at 9 Plutarch Street on the chance that you may be at Athens.

You'll be pleased to know that the division of finds has been confirmed by Megaw. Dikaios has started the trial dig but it is too early to say with what results.

The overnor walked over our sites from Ayios Ermoyenis to Apollo and seemed much impressed in general. I went up to Government House the following week for lunch. The set up was most formal, though few were there, much more so than under Woolley, his conservative predecessor. The overnor, who appeared only at the last moment before lunch, and Lady Winston, led the way into the dining room, and after lunch led the way out like royalty.

[handwritten: Yours sincerely,] [handwritten: George]
