CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASSOL CYPRUS
15 March, 1947Dear Mr. Hill,
I finally got my article off last Monday with drawings and photographs. It went by registered air mail at 26 p for each half ounce. I hesitate to say how many half ounces there were, as I have just received a letter from the editor, P.D., saying that the issue for which my paper was intended is already out. However, I'm glad to have the burden off my shoulders. I think it is much improved by the extra amount of time that has been spent upon it and I suppose that is all that matters really in the long run. I'm still doubtful about a few points which I want very much to go over with you when you come down, as there may still be time now to change the article a little, if necessary, before space can be made available for it in some other issue.
As you probably know, Professor Beazley is in the island with his wife. I have been meaning to write him to ask them down here if they can put up with such comforts as we can provide for visitors. Chrystodomedes has very kindly offered to let us use his house, for visitors for a few days at a time and this has been very convenient. The first time we used it we fixed house, repairing windows, putting in new panes, and securing the stairway which was in need of some reenforcing. He has expressed his pleasure by instructing his guard to open the place for us at any time. Our first visitors were some English friends of mine who have a small motor yacht at Famagusta, an ex ML in the Royal Navy. They are planning to visit Greece and the islands this spring. Our last visitor was Joan Tailor who has been in the island for a month or so but is planning to return very soon to London. Stewart is also in the island on his way from England back to Australia. While a prisoner of war in Germany he became interested in numismatics. Two days ago he gave a lecture at Nicosia on the coins of the Lusignons but we were unfortunately not able to make it. He and Megaw are visiting us on Sunday, that is tomorrow. I am very anxious to have you come down and see what the Youngs have been doing and to invite them, if you approve, to stay on another year. This is the most pressing matter to be taken up asp naturally, they will want to make plans well in advance if they are not to stay. The fiscal year ends June 30th and I don't see how they can possibly be ready to leave so soon. They haven't even begun the photography yet which will be no small undertaking. I should write the Museum very soon to give them an estimate of what will be needed to carry on the work of the expedition for the coming year. I know that
