CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASSOL CYPRUS

11 February, 1947Dear Mr. Hill,

Many thanks for your letter of February 7th which reached me yesterday. The letter I refer to in the telegram which reached you on January 12th was the letter of January 6th. It was already on its way by the time I had sent the telegram and it crossed your letter to me of January 3rd, the last received until the one which reached me yesterday.

I was very interested to hear what you had to say about your article and will be looking forward to reading it in Hesperia. My article has been delayed by the photography envolved and by the register of finds which has taken a great deal more time in compiling than I had anticipated. It has turned out to be something more than a register and should prove the more useful for it I think although it may mean I have missed the issue for which it was intended. Pete had not give n me any dead line as yet but I have written him explaining the delay and I hope I can still get it over in time. The photography has held it up more than anything else as I found I had to rephotograph almost every object as the original photos were not good enough for publication. The first two films sent in to Edward's for development returned covered with spots from the inferior solution used. There were no plates for your size of camera nor any film to be had in the island. Megaw, however, managed to have some larger plates cut down. They all returned from Edward's, however, either scratched or damaged by streaks of light running across them. As the responsability for this was shared by so many, the cutter of the plates, Edward's the photographer, and possibly a leaky camera, that I gave this up as a bad job and took to my Leica again. I have or will have by the end of this week a complete set of photographs which I think will do, and my register is almost finished. The latter is complete but needs going over and checking. I will then revise the text of the article which should not take more than a few days. Last has made a fine set of drawings and profiles for such vases as should have the m. I am hoping that by the time this reaches you the text of your article will be complete not only because of the natural interest in me but for the thought that maybe we will be seeing you here before long.
