July 18, 1946Mr. George H. McFadden Curium Excavations Episkopi Limassol, D., Cyprus

Dear Mr. McFadden,

Your letter of July 4th, addressed to Mrs. Godfrey at the Museum, arrived after she had left on her vacation, and has been referred to me.

We were delighted to hear from you and to note that Mr. Hill is in favor of the neolithic "dig" proposed. I think we told you before, we would like to discuss this matter a little with Mr. Daniel, who I expect to see tomorrow.

We are very grateful for the statement in your letter that you are enclosing a check for $1,000 as an initial instalment of your share of the estimated $8,000. By some oversight this check was omitted, and did not arrive with your letter.

Your letter further asks that the Museum send you $1,000 as its share, along with the proceeds of your check. As the check did not arrive, as above explained, we are sending $2,000, pursuant to your instructions, of which, of course, one-half represents the check which was left out, and which you will undoubtedly send later on.

I understand you have written Mr. Daniel about the disposition of the antiquities from his own sites. In any event, when I see him tomorrow, I will take this matter up with him, and will ask him to let you know direct.

I am delighted to learn from your letter that you will be back in September, and hope that we will have the pleasure of meeting you and hearing about the work soon after you return.

With kindest personal regards,

Yours very sincerely,
