… found at Erimi. Khirokitia did produce some combed-decorated pottery in a limited area at the top levels, and it is this pottery that has been found at Sotira. It is not known whether the huts at Sotira were domed tholoi as at Khirokitia or covered with thatching carried on a central post as at Erimi. That was one of the points he hoped to elucidate in his trial dig this summer.

It now seems that the small amount of money we have been able to give Dikaios for digging this year will suffice only for his cleaning-up work at Khirokitia & for a trial on a site nearby. The trial at Sotira may have to wait unless you are by now in a position to put your proposal into operation. My suggestion would then be that your Expedition should finance not only a Neolithic Dig by Dikaios, which would have to be done next year I think, but the trial excavation at Sotira this summer. It is difficult to say what it would cost but it should not exceed £50. If you could allocate this sum for the purpose & something remained it could be set against the cost of the main Neolithic dig.

We are going to our cottage today though and hope to see you there before you go; I must warn you the place will be full of builders for some weeks.

What news of the pumps?

Greetings to Joe. Yours Peter Megaw
