June 21, 1946Dear Mr. McFadden:
I am distressed for the delay in answering your letter but it came when I was in California. Fortunately the order for the drawing material was put through immediately so it should not be much longer before going forth to you but they tell me it will be impossible to get the following items which were on the list:
1 scale, boxwood, cms and mms, 50 cms 1 " " " " 30 cms 1 offset " 5 cms 1 doz. note books 17 by 10 1/2 cms in 1/2 cm squares 1 flexible ruler, rubber covered lead, 15" 2 metre scales hinged at 1 metre (wood) 2 1 metre a ring steel metre tapes Paper ordered comes only in sheets, not rolls.
Referring to your previous letter concerning the publications to be sent to the Musee at Alexandria, I am enclosing the librarian's letter and as yet we have not received the requested postal card.
I think your set up sounds superb, with the Youngs and Joseph List, and the Board enthusiastically approved your suggestion that the Museum increase its share of the estimated eight thousand dollars needed for Curium to two thousand dollars. You will let us know when and how it should be paid, won't you? It, the Board, was not so enthusiastic about a neolithic site as an alternative to the Acropolis and suggested that that matter be passed for the time being.
I am delighted you are doing so well with your Hellenistic cemetery that you hope to have the material ready for publication before the end of the summer. Congratulations!
