Villa Nova,

6 October, 1946The Director, The University Museum, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Dear Mrs. Godfrey,

I am enclosing herewith a statement of Kourium's accounts from the time of my arrival on the site in March until the close of the University's fiscal year. Our accounts in Cyprus are kept in shillings but you will find the enclosed statement in dollars. I have converted the amounts at the rate of 20 cents to one shilling. Some outstanding bills remained to be paid for this period, so the figures will be subject to some revision upwards. Expenses, however, were much less than I had anticipated. There were two reasons for this. I had expected the Youngs to arrive much sooner than they did, and I had foregotten that the fiscal year ended June 31st. All maintenance expenses during the war and up to the time of my return to Cyprus to resume our work, were taken care of by me.

With your permission, the amount left over will be used for the current year. Normally, we should have paid for the Youngs' air passage to Cyprus. When they were ready to leave, however, UNRRA very obligingly bought their tickets for them. Of all UNRRA'S good deeds taken down by the recording angel this should top the list.

As you know, Dr. and Mrs. Young agreed to come down to rejoin the expedition on a minimum joint stipend, or scholarship, of $2,000.00
