Curium Excavations Limassol, Cyprus

April 19, 1940Dear Pete,

You must have been thinking that I had forgotten all about the Bamboula publication in this land of lotus-eating. I have had some troubles, but the pictures are nearly all ready now to send for your inspection. To wit, these are done: P 756, 765, 768, 770, 771, 773-4, 778, 784, 786, 789, 793, 799, 802, 804, 808-813, 957, 1223-37, 1424; Sh 546, 582, 584, and sherds of British Museum pot; a group of four griders, and a couple of querns. This leaves out:

P 766 and 769, big pithoi in your apotheke, which will be mopped up in the next few days (roll with 766 tentatively at its beginning now being developed) P 772 finally discovered in pieces in the garage P 806 which I have never been able to identify the big red pithos with neck preserved - Christo rolled this out from where it loomed against the light in the corner of the hall, found a large crack in its side, applied healing salves and bandages and propped it up in a semi-reclined position, went to breakfast, came back to find it in a complete collapse on the floor of the kitchen (who really apparently has been returned to its corner, a spare Christo for a day after a day the blow-torch repaired. Same applies

It would have been better if I could have got the work done before Christo was off to the excavations, but I couldn't get under way with photography while George was still cataloguing. I have no ground-glass attachment for my Leica
