Jan. 16, 1940Dear Miss Grace:

Mr. Jayne has [handwritten: handed] me your letter to him of January 14th together with the card of the Italian Line with a notation on the back of the cost of the passage. Will you be kind enough to tell me [handwritten: whether] you wish us to send the cheque direct to the Italian Line or to the American Express Company, since a representative of the latter company called us on the phone on Friday [handwritten: (I think)] and following Mr. Jayne's instructions I told them to [handwritten: reserve] serve a berth for you on the Saturnia.

As soon as I hear from you I shall get the cheque off to whichever company you name. The one not getting the business, should, however, be notified by you to avoid future complications, although it may be that the companies work together.

After paying out the passage it seems best to Mr. Jayne and me that we should turn over to you the sum of $70. to take care of incidental expenses. Our thought is to pay the outgoing passage only at this time.

Sincerely yours
