Dear Pete,

Your letter of 3 December came shortly after I [handwritten: had] sent my last, largely unnecessary, letter to you. I read what you write of University work and your other doings with much interest.

In answer to your inquiry about travelling expenses I send herewith a check obtained from George when he was here, on the chance that you may need it, or part of it, when you arrange for your return, though I hope that you still have most or all of the $200 advanced you from Curium funds last fall by Mr.Jayne, which you wrote that you were then salting down. (When the Museum's contribution for excavation was sent to Cyprus the 200 were deducted, to George's and my surprise. We had imagined them an addition to the stipulated contribution) The present advance for travelling expenses is reckoned as $150 plus £10 less whatever the small sum [handwritten: ...] spent for us in London (You did not send the expected account, I think?). I doubt if an Export liner via Egypt will save time though it might save a little money in spite of the relatively high cost of the passage from Egypt to Cyprus (£3, III cl - there is no IIcl - from Alexandria). By the way, I think you might do well to return via Athens so as to have a talk with Professor Crosby, who will be on duty in Philadelphia again next year. George and Lewey Lands arrived here the last day of the old year and left, one last Friday, the other last Monday. George was expecting to be here again by the end of January and to stay only a few days before going on to Cyprus. Lewey unfortunately will not return. He made facsimiles of the mosaic inscriptions, which I have here, and an excellent map of the main hill. There was not time for Apollo or Bamboula. What we shall do next about plans is not yet known. John Wyeth is expected around the first of February. I rather count on John Young being with us at Episkopi again in the spring also.
