Dec. 2, 1938Dear Mr. Hill,

I just got your cable two days ago, saying you could not come here before the 14th. This will mean, I suppose, that your trip here will be a very short one. I thought I ought to let you know that there is nothing particularly urgent for you to come for just now, if it would suit you much better not to miss Christmas at home. Lands says that he is getting along with his work well, and Young, while he feels naturally that he should see you before relinquishing his work here, says that he could explain to you what he has done almost as well at Athens. He had expected to be home for Christmas and is now somewhat upset about your not arriving before the 14th. He had hoped to sail just about then for Greece, their being no other boat that could get him there before the 25th. He is writing you today I think.

As regards myself, as I wrote you, I have not been excavating on account of the house. As far as the house is concerned it is certainly a very good thing that I havent. It is beginning to enter the final stage now with already more carpenters around than masons. Another two weeks should see it about finished. So there is nothing new unfortunately for you to see at Apollo.
