Nov. 7, 1938Dear Mr. Hill,
I have been hoping that I might have a letter from you some time soon, but since none has come I am writing anyway. Christo writes that you have arrived in Cyprus with Lands and someone else, whose name is [handwritten: ?] unintelligible in the Greek version, to work on the terracottas. I am delighted to know that they are being done.
Did you recieve my letter in which I asked if it would be possible for Lands to make detail drawings of the mosaic inscriptions? Hannah Cox's drawings of them are not accurate enough for publication.
Mr. Jayne is letting the museum photographer make prints of the mosaic photographs and of the object pictures I took this spring of Bamboula and Kaloriziki objects. He does very good work. I will give a set to the museum.
I arrived here very short of funds, and tried to get my next Kourion salary; he promissed to do something about that. The next thing I knew, after several weeks, I was awarded two hundred dollars. It was much more than I wanted and embarassing on several accounts, but there was nothing to do but take it, as it had been passed by the University financial board and the check issued. I have put the surplus in the savings bank. The one good point of this is that it deffinitely establishes the fact that my salary comes from the museum, and also establishes my right to recieve that salary while I hold the fellowship.
