Dear Mr. Hill,
The enclosed article speaks for itself. I have just sent a copy to Miss Swindler, praying for an early publication before somebody else (Casson) beats me to it. I told her that I was sending it to you for your approval, and that I would ask you to communicate directly with her if there was anything that you felt should be changed. I hope that will be convenient.
As I think you know, I was pleased with the idea of the Ku-ri reading, but had some difficulty convincing myself that that was correct. I have been working on it again recently in my spare time, and suddenly saw the light last week-end, when I was staying with Mrs. Dohan in the country. It has caused a certain amount of minor excitement here, and so I decided to write it up and try to get it into print. It is so short that it may be possible to fit it in almost immediately. Mr. Jayne approves its publication, and wants another article on the same subject for the museum Journal. If you don't object I will give it to him directly, without first sending it to you for approval. It will be essentially the same as this, but I may illustrate the find circumstances of the other inscribed pieces, and will say rather more about Homer's use of the verb in question([handwritten: κεἰσθω])
Through Mrs. Dohan I have undertaken some book reviewing for the A.J.A. At the moment I am working on the second Mallia report.
Then I will do Casson's and Schaeffer's Cyprus books; Mrs. Dohan had sent them to Virginia, but she won't be able to do them in the immediate future so she is passing them on to me. No review copies of vols.2 and 3 of the Swedish Cyprus Expedition have been sent, so Mrs. Dohan has written to see if she can get them for me. I certainly hope she can.
