December 9, 1937Dear McFadden, (Can we not drop titles?)

Thank you so much for your letter of November 24th from Episkopi and its good news of the coming of the reports. I have no doubt we can make provision for the publication of these at a relatively early date. We can take care of the retyping without difficulty and the corrections on the plan of the sanctuary of Apollo.

The proflho machine and the plaster were sent off to you shortly after you sailed and should surely be in your hands before this reaches you.

The first thousand of the two thousand dollar grant will go off to you in a little while — certainly before the end of this month. Will you write me when you want to receive the second half? It will be in hand immediately after the first of the year and can be sent whenever you direct.

I could simply do nothing in regard to the fellowship for Daniel at the University, much to my regret. All these fellowships are assigned as early as May the preceding year. If Daniel wants to have a try for next year, it would be well, they tell me, for him to make application now. I can, however, pay him, as earlier arranged, fifty dollars a month for any period up to ten months, though a part of his time, at least, in each month should be devoted somewhat to the Curium Expedition's affairs. I leave this to you to arrange and, too, I should prefer it if you could make the payments to him, unless you would rather not. I can send you the total amount to cover these or any part of these you see fit. I shall wait your direction in this regard.

Best luck and kindest regards.

Sincerely yours,
