October 20, 1937Dear Mr. Daniel:-

I have been tardy in acknowledging your letter of September 8th and the admirable preliminary report of the work you did at the Late Bronze Age site of Kourion. The results are indeed very satisfactory, both as to the history of the site and its name, and the additional letters added to the syllabary.

Miss Swindler has your manuscript and, I learn from Mrs. Dohan, looks to publishing it in the near future. Of course it has my approval.

I have done what I could about your fellowship here at the University: I fear it is little enough. Those fellowships are usually assigned in the spring and there is a long waiting list of candidates ready to step in if one of the successful ones falls by the wayside. You may have some success by reapplying soon for next year, but I find I can do nothing more actively to help.

Meanwhile Mr. McFadden cabled Mr. Hill. I understand, relaying on the news that we felt it possible to [handwritten: give] you cooperation at the rate of $50. a month when on the dig, and I hope this meets with your approval. It is not much, to be sure, but the best we would manage.

When I hear from you please let me know what arrangements you wish made to receive these payments.

With kind regards, please believe me

Sincerely yours,

Horace H. F. Jayne DIRECTOR.
