Landhaus Urban Berchtesgaden Bavaria Germany August 31, 1936.

Dear Mr. Hill,

Your letter of August 26th. Just reached me here yesterday. I should have answered it immediately but had to go to Salzburg for the day with my sister [handwritten: Mrs] and did not return until late last night.

I am cabling the University Museum to send the drawings immediately to Christos Gregoriou. They did not arrive until after I had already sailed again for Europe.

I am delighted Megaw is to be the new Director of Antiquities. I agree altogether that the excess cost of the land should be prorated 1/3 to the Govt, 2/3 to us.

I think the bribe to Evgoras might be a good thing although it is annoying we should have to humour him in this way. I think we should do everything possible to prevent the occupation of the big house. I would be willing to put up with a great deal to prevent it.

The Museum was very pleased, as I wrote you, that month of the year will be resiing at Episkopi. I think we should do everything possible to prevent the occupation of the big house. I would be willing to put up with a great deal to prevent it.

The Museum was very pleased, as I wrote you, with our work in Cyprus and have contributed another $2,000.00 for the next campaign. Mr. Jayne was full of apologies for the delays of last year and promised to send at least $500.00 by the first of September to the Ottoman Bank, Limassol. I am cabling him to send $700.00 if possible What do you think will be the amount necessary for Miss Coxe and her expenses? As I remember, she was to receive the same amount as last year ($500.00).

I was so pleased with the support Mr Jayne promised us for the coming year, that, a few days after he told me that the Museum would contribute another $2,000.00, I sent Mr. Jayne a check for $500.00 to be used as he saw fit for the work of the Museum (it being understood, of course, that it was not to be allocated to Curium Excavations). I received a letter from him a few weeks ago saying that the Trustees, in way of showing me their appreciation for my interest and support, had elected me Patron. I think they understand now that it was their moral support that I had always hoped to have from them.

When are you planning to sail for America? I hope there may be a chance of our meeting before you sail.

I am in the same Landhaus as last Summer with me and her two children but is leaving unfortunately this week. We have had a very pleasant month together.

I miss very much not having seen you for so long.

John Wyeth. He is doing splendid work here. My sister is with
