[pencilMenelaos.] Dear Bert, I have looked at photographs of my 2 vases, they are not properly lit. The lighting of the small amphora is bad, you can hardly see the shape of the vase. The big crater is lighted in the same way and gives a wrong idea of the shape, which is [illegible] of the most graceful shapes in Cypriote pottery. Both photographs are not properly reproduced. The vase with the two birds in the upper zone is missing in the photographs and also the vase with the bull; only the panel with the bull is reproduced. I am sending you to-day photographs of the two vases, [pencil] taken on white back ground, [/pencil] they are printed on the same paper as my paper on the Cesnola crater. If the plates can be reproduced on this paper it would be very much better. I [struck through letter] have marked on the back of the photographs of the vases "White background" please tell the printers to cut out the backgrounds. Please return my photographs when you have finished with them. With best wishes Yours sincerely [pencil] P. D. [/pencil] … continues
